Gavin Bishop ONZM is one of New Zealand’s most celebrated children’s authors and illustrators. He has won Best New Zealand Children’s Book of the Year five times, Best Illustrated Children’s Book ten times, and Best Non-Fiction Children’s Book three times. Renowned for his storytelling and distinctive visual style, Gavin’s work has introduced generations of tamariki to Aotearoa’s history, culture and imagination. In recognition of his lifetime contribution to Māori art and culture, he received the Ngā Tohu ā Tā Kingi Ihaka Award in 2018, followed by the Prime Minister’s Award for Literary Achievement in 2019. In 2024, Gavin was nominated for the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Award – the highest international honour in children’s literature.

Waiora Marama is an artist who loves exploring stories – from wildlife and history to the places we call home. Surrounded by creativity growing up, she draws inspiration from her whānau and the stories of Aotearoa. Waiora has worked with young people in libraries, museums, and kapa haka groups, connecting tamariki to their own creative voice.
